Science
This half term the children will be learning about plants and what they need to grow well.
Last week the children started looking at how plants help us, they managed to come up with a long list which included; they give us food, we use them to make wooden furniture, they give us oxygen to help us breathe and they are used for decoration.
Here is an excellent poster made by Mohamed H which shows us many ways in which plants are useful to us.

Yesterday the children learnt about the different parts of a plant and their function (job).
Here is some work produced by Ali which shows the jobs of the 4 main parts of a plant.

This week the children also carried out an experiment called the Leaf Thief, they have set up an investigation using plants, one plant has no leaves on it and the other has leaves and over the week we will be observing the 2 plants to see if plants can survive without leaves. Make sure you ask your child what happens to the plants and what they have learnt from the experiment.
